Natty Nittany Onward Debates Photo Story Drunk, Sober, High Squirrel Girl
A win is a win.
Penn State football battled the rainy, windy conditions and remained undefeated with a 17-7 win over Northwestern. The Nittany Lions turned the ball over five times, but a lights-out defensive performance from Manny Diaz’s crew secured a win for Penn State.
Besides the on-field action, there were plenty of things that happened on a soggy Saturday in State College.
Everyone loves a rain game, right? Well, no.
After the rain held off for a few hours in the tailgating lots, the sky eventually opened up. The soggy and moist conditions carried over to the game, with many fans taking cover with ponchos and even garbage bags.
By the end of the game, many in the crowd had flooded toward the exits, and we can hardly blame them. The conditions were brutal.
However, a handful of players seemed to enjoy the sloppy weather after the game.

This blew us away, quite honestly.
It’s no secret that Onward State is a big fan of cocktagons. We’ve expressed our love for them and have even made a map of where they are in the tailgating lots. Now, they’re on a whole new level.
One cocktagon is efficient enough. But two right next to each other? We’re playing chess now, not checkers. Having them surrounded by porta-potties, too, was the icing on the cake. Amazing stuff here, Penn State.
Beer, beer, and more beer.
Most fans were thrilled when they learned Beaver Stadium would sell beer during Penn State’s game against Northwestern. Some were concerned about the prospect of already-drunk fans having access to more alcohol once they get into the stadium. So far, so good, though, we’d say.
Beers sales were quick and accessible, and on the surface, it doesn’t seem like there were any major alcohol-related incidents — or at least any that were out of the ordinary. Penn State Athletics has to be thrilled with how it went. It’s definitely reaping the financial benefits, too.
James Franklin, who usually has his bright, bald head on display for everyone to see, took cover with a baseball hat during his team’s win over Northwestern. You have to keep the dome dry, folks.
It was a look that Franklin had rarely rocked before. We have to say — he looked so happy to be there, too.
Per Penn State’s final stat book, the attendance for Saturday’s game against Northwestern was 105,524. I’m not usually one to argue attendance numbers, but are we kidding here?

If there were 105,524 people there, there must be 200,000 fans at a normal game. The number is likely paid attendance, which is far more believable, but why even try to manipulate people here? Just report the actual attendance.
The Pennsylvania Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate, Dr. Oz, was spotted at a tailgate prior to the game.
Dr. Oz is running against Democratic nominee John Fetterman, who has served as the 34th lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania since 2019. Election day is on November 8, 2022.
